TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—ln April the election takes place of the Lo_wer Hutt Mayor and borough councillors, also members of the Electric Power Board and Petone-Lower Hutt Gas Board. Two years ago the present Mayor and councillors, when campaigning, gave a, promise that the burning question of amalgamation with the Petone Borough would receive immediate attention, and, after a conference with' Petone representatives, the data'obtained and decision made would be made known to the people. Will the -Mayor make a statement on the issue? During the two years since the election .one borough councillor has been absent from New Zealand some fifteen months, and two others many months. Do,these businessticket councillors consider the interests Of the -residents have been catered to by casting their .duties upon the • remaining councillors? When granting leave of absence was the spirit of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1920, observed? When the Hutt River.*is abnormally ,in flood the district is inundated by the stoppage of the drainage system. What method does the council propose to remedy this contingency? The River Board election was held last year, but no public meetings were held to enlighten. the public ,i.ou the river works improvements and reclamation from the sea. The scheme authorised by Act of Parliament involves the large sum of • £55,000, for which the owners of land are held re-, sponsible.
