CIVIL BUSINESS.

Judgment for plaintiffs by default was given in the following undefended civil taßes :—George and George v. Mrs. Helicock, £1 11s, costs 11s j M. H. I 1 Anson v. A. Cann, £7 18s, costs £110s 6d; J. Arcus v. J. H. Coates, 32 15s 6d, costa | £1 3s 6d; M'Ewen and 'Carter, Ltd., v. J. M'Coll, £7 2s 6d, costs £1 16s 6d; J. Arcus y. C. Wakelin, £2 12s 7d, costs £1 4s 6d; W. KeiT Hislop v. J. H. Fletcher, £9 18s, costs £1 13s 6d. In defended cases Packard and Boyd proceeded against H. 'Stewart for the sum of £21 Ss 9d balance alleged to be due on a contract for tha erection of a house. Judgment was given for the sum of £4 10s 9d and" costs. Mr. G. Findlay appeared for plaintiffs, and Mr. G. Hogg for defendant.

Mrs. E. A. King proceeded against her brother-in-law, E. King, for the recovery of rent of premises occupied by him, the lease of which was held by plaintiff. The claim was for rent at the rate'of £3 per week. Defendant had paid into Court rent at the. rate of £1 6a 6d per week, which he alleged was the full amount which could be charged under the war. legislation. The Bench upheld this view, and judgment was given for, the amount', paid in. Costs were not allowed. Mr. G. Findlay apP.ea. red.*or defendant and Mr. Free for plaintiff. ■
