GEAR ISLAND PARK
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Mr. Strand ( takes exception to my. remarks made at the meeting of the Hutt Park Committee, which nevertheless are as far as the committee is concerned absolutely true. The letter published in Mr. Strand's reply was never , at any time before the committee, and it should have been plain by the date of Mr. Mitchell's letter—l9th. July—and the reply sent by Mr. Rishworth—22nd July—that the matter was treated as a purely personal one between those two writers. Both these gentlemen know that the committee only meets quarterly, and as Mayor of the Lower Hutt it appears to me that Mr. Strand could have easily obtained all information required from the three delegates'of the Hutt Council on the Hutt Park Committee. The committee has absolutely no knowledge of the Progress League, Mr. Mitchell, or Mr. Strand, as far as a desire to help the committee is concerned.
With regard to the leases mentioned by Mr. Strand, I have consistently opposed the granting of extended leases, believing that the time would soon come when use would be required by a far greater number of players than were possible in the games where the leases mentioned were concerned.—l am, etc;, C. 11.I 1.
