GREAT WALL SEES HARD FIGHTING

(SIDNEY SUN CABLE.) PEKIN, 21st October. Official Mukden dispatches claim that the Pekin forces lost upwards of ten thousand in casualties and prisoners in two battles on 19th and 20th October. I It is stated that fresh Pekin troops attempted to cut the Mukden line south of the Great Wall. The right wing advanced over mined ground, and the explosion threw them into wild confusion, into which -the Mukden troops poured rifle and. machine gun fire, killing five thousand. A battle, which already has lasted a night and a day, is proceeding south-east of Jehol. The Pekin forces lost a brigadier and five other high officers, and a thousand men killed, as well as fifteen hundred prisoners.
