R. J. Mason declares that he will not start Gloaming if the "going" should be bad. Gloaming galloped this morning at Ascot, and had walking exercise during the afternoon. He looks to be in excellent condition. / The stipendiary stewards will hold an inquiry to-morrow into Purser's/ running in the Coongy Handicap a« compared with that in the Caulfield Cup. Melbourne Cup scratching!: Amalfi and Kingmaker. ""-■ Trainer W. Leyshon is indisposed with influenza. Spearfelt ran nine furlongs in 2min 13sec at'Caulfield. 'J. Harris will ride Solidify in the Derby and the Cup.
