GENEROSITY
The latest and most magnificent gift to the Borough of Lower Hutt/has. just been received from Messrs. E. V., D. H., and Eric Riddiford, in the presentation of most, handsome swimming baths complete in every detail. These are to be built, in the new grounds, surrounded by gardens and lawm The bath,pool.itself, 40ft by 100 ft, is. to be lined with white tiles. The front entrance is domed, and is provided with ample office • and waiting-room, accommodation. One side is taken up with private dressing-rooms with all possible conveniences. These are to have a flat roof, with overhead accommodation for spectators. .The other side is provided with raised seats and sloping banks, and in the back portion are to be general dressing-rooms: and spectators' stands. The work is to be. carried: out in red brick and reinforced ■'■ concrete, and will ■ harmonise with the other-, buildings (built and- proposed) ■ around it. . This generous gift to the borough--will be
much appreciated, and will supply a long-felt need. The appreciation of the council is not only for the gift, hut.also j for * the. grand public" spirit which prompted it. On the receipt by the council of the letter making known the gift, it was unanimously decided to name the new park "Riddiford Park," in order to perpetuate for all time'tho memory of one of the earliest and mostrespected families of the district.
