NEW TURN TO WRANGLE

SOMETHING SINISTER, TO HIDE.'

(SYDNEY SUN CABLE.)

(Received 22nd October, noon.)

LONDON, 216t October.

Mr. Harvey, speaking at South Shields, gave a new turn to the Campbell controversy. He alleged that it

was untrue that Sir Patrick Hastings, Attorney-General, as he stated in the House of Commons, did not know what reasons Mr. Travers Humphreys, Crown Prosecutor, intended to give in the Police Court for the withdrawal of the case.

On the contrary Sir Patrick Hastings, Mr. Humphreys; and his secretary, conferred at the Garrick Club. Sir Patrick Hastings took a pen and deleted four grounds Mr. Humphreys desired to include in the announcement of withdrawal.

Mr. Harney added : "We do not know half the facts. There is something sinister to hide. The Government has resorted to an election in the hope of throwing sufficient dust in the electors' eyes to prevent an inquiry."
