SALES OF WORK

The annual sale.of work of the Cambridge Terrace Congregutional Ladies' Guild was opened yesterday afternoon by the Viscountess Jellicoo. The president'of the guild (Mrs. W. Maurico Holland) introduced Her Excellency, and the Cambridge Girl Guides .and Brownies formod a guurd of honour. Brownie Jean Waddlo presented Her Excellency with a bouquet. The Rev. Frank De Lisle took part in the opening ceremony. After declaring the sale open, Her i Excellency made the round of the stalls, which, with the stage, were effectively decorated. The following ladies were in charge:—Work Mesdames Holland, Hutchin, Cocks' Pearce, Webber; fancy goods, Messrs! Cocks and Stephenson; flower, Mesdames Lennox, Andrews, and Miss Hutchin; sweets, Mrs. Porter and Miss Iris Hutchin; Minerva Club,. Misses Stirrat, Betten, Thawley, and Athay; produce, Mesdames Stephenson, Remington, and Wilcox ; Sunday school, Misses Hollis, Burnett, P., and G. Day, Messrs. W. Lewis, and R. Gray; bran tub, Messrs. C. J."M. Reynolds and W. J. Harper. The refreshments were in the hands of Alesdames Burnett, Gaudin, Betten, Silcox, and Parsons. In the evening an excellent programme was submitted by Miss Remington, who accompanied the siucers. Those' taking part were: Miss MerTo James and .Messrs. :E. Muir and L. Anderson, who gave elocutionary items; Miss Una Smith' and Messrs. Goudioj Brown, Hopkirk, and Sargent, who sang; and Miss Vera Cleverley, who gave an Irish dance. A series of unaccompanied quartettes was given by the Kent Terrace Quartette Party (Mrs. D. L. Irwin, Miss R. Sim, Messrs. Irwin and Hopkirk).' Tho hall was comfortably filled, and the results for the day were quite satisfactory. - Another good programme is beiti" presented this evening.' Yesterday, afternoon the annual sale of work of the-Church of Christ was held in.the church,-Vivian street. 'The room was decorated with greenery, streamers, and coloured papers, and, altogether, the effect was charming. In spite^pf the uncongenial weather, business was brisk.
