LIQUOR FOR KLONDYKE

DAWSON DISAPPOINTED

CARGO TAPPED EN ROUTE,

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION COPYRIGHT.)

(SYDNEY SUN CAULE.)

OTTAWA, 30th September,

When America went officially "dry," it became impossible for the people of the Klondyko to obtain supplies of liquor, even for medical purposes, as the American officials declined to allow liquor to cross the narrow strip of Alaskan territory which affords the only entrance to Dawson.

This summer Canada and the United btates reached an agreement under" which it was arranged that liquor might be shipped into the Yukon territory. A shipload was recently sent north, but when it reached Dawson it was discovered that 60 per cent, had been looted. Many bottles were refilled -with water, and others were empty. The supposition is that the cargo was tapped in Vancouver, in the interests of the bootlegging trade.
