COMPETITION AT LYMPNE

LONDON, 30th September. The light aeroplanes competitions at Lympne were hampered by unfavourable weather.

The most notable performance was that of the Australian, Bert Hinkler, in an Avro Avis aeroplane, which, though it was disqualified from tho competition, as it was not ready in time, reached an altitude of 4000 feet during the morning, constituting a record at this meeting. The trials at Lympne are the outcome of the Air Ministry's offer of prizes amounting in value to £3000, with the object of discovering a suitablo machine for teaching an embryo pilot, which shall be cheaper and safer than the standard training machines.
