Twelve hundred women Unionists of North .England, at a meeting at Keswick, addressed by Miss Crichton Imrie, of Christchurch, pledged themselves individually to buy only Empire produce, and undertook, if all the Dominion's commodities wore branded, that they would insist on grocers selling such goods, or boycott the grocers. They also undertook that'the ingredients of their Christmas puddings should be New Zealand or Australian products.
