HOMING PIGEONS

The Petono Homing Pigeon Club held its second race of the season from Dannevirke. The birds were held over on Saturday owing to bad weather, and wero liberated on Sunday nnder the same conditions. It was a hard fly. The first prize was a trophy donated by Mr. C. Culshaw; second. prize, a trophy donated by Mr. W. Xil mer" Tlle ail'-linß distance was 100 miles, sixty-seven birds from nine lofts competing. Following wcTe tho results :—J. Mexted's red chq. cock, 552, 1920; flying time, 4h sm, 595; velocity, 716, 3. H. Halls silver hen, 901, 1923; flying time, 5h 5m 4s; velocity, 576, 4. '

The Wellington Homing Pigeou Society hold its weokly race from Waiouru, a distanco of 135 miles air line. There wore fifteen loft 3 competing, with a total of 89 birds. The day was wet, but the time was not interfered with greatly, the first bird home doing 1000 yards to the minute. -The results are as follow : —Mr. A, Priddle's blue cock, 1008 yards a minute, 1; Mr. E. Newson's red chequer hen, 29, 856 yards a minute, 2; Mr. R. Hastie's bluo chequer cock 67, 855 yards a minute, 3; Mr. J. H. Clark's red chequer cock 185, 854 yards a minute, 4. There was a first and second prize for new menibers attached to this race—Mr. Priddle being a new member secures this also, and Mr. Wagner secured second place. The race next week will bo held from Taumarunui.
