TROTTING NOTES

(By "Vedette.")

FIXTURES. October 2—Kurow JHi. (two ovents). October 11, 16—Auckland T.C.

The nominations for the Auckland Trotting Club's Spring Meeting are in every way satisfactory. There aro not many Southern horses engaged, but what there are aro of good quality and includo Great Bingen, Logan Chief, Peter Swift, Linden, Audacious, Man-o'-war, Taurekareka, Ivy Audubon, and Delaven Quest. Bicolour and Lady Nan represent Manawatu. Northern owners have responded well, nnd with so many horses trained in Auckland thero is no doubt tho season will bo inaugurated most successfully in the North. G. Paton is not doing much track work with All Boll; tho brown gelding is showing signs of unsoundness, and is being given plenty of swimming. Nita. Bell, in tho same stable, shows signs of soreness.

Littlo Logan is one of the most improved _ trotters Been out in the South for some time, and trainer D. Withers will take him to Auckland. Tho Logan Pointer gelding has a fast record over a mile and five furlongs, and the objective of tho Auckland trip is to place a two-mile record against him so as to be eligible for the Dominion Trotting Handicap, at Addington, in November.

Tho pacer Talent raced unluckily at the Geraldine Meeting,1 filling second place in both the trotting events on Friday, after being third in his engagement the previous day. Tho worst feature was that he registered some fast times. ' Tho Trotting Cup candidate Onyx is causing no anxiety to her trainer, " as shu was never better. J. Messorvey worked her during tho "week at New Brighton, and the marc acquitted herself in brilliant style. She is now much more robust in constitution, and her careful trainer thinks she will show even better than what she registered at Addington in August.

The following aro the details of the two trotting events on the concluding day at Geraldine:—

Jimmy Chimes was the only scratching for the Domain Trot Hiindicau. In a field of eighteen llaunni was a s'l-roii" favouriic. with Morning Glow, Talent", and Winsojne Melody best backed of the othei'H. test early. Matagouri showed the way to Hard Knock, Bertha Dillon, and Carbine Direct, who were joined by Talent after going about half a mile. Bertha Dillon headed Matagouri six furlongs from home, while a bit further on Talent took second place. Bertha Dillon was not again troubled, and she won easily by four lengths. 'Matagouri came on again in the Etraight, but Talent beat him for second place by a length. Hard Knock was close up fourth, with Miss O'Neill and Haunui next. The winner finished sixth in the saddle race the previous day, but she went much better in harness. She is a five-year-old by Huia Dillon from Bell Bingen, and she should win again before long. Talent paced a solid race, and is a useful sort, though not likely to improve much more. Two scratchings left thirteen starters for the Winchester Trot Handicap. For some reason M'Nab was made favourite, with Pan Van, Nightlight, and Talent best backed of the others. Morven Lass led Pan Van, Bridget Lynn, and Nightlight for about six furlongs, and then retired, leaving Pan Van in front. That was the end of the race. Talent took second place at the home turn, but Pan lan beat her very easily by three lengths. Logwood was four lengths awa-y, followed by Bridget Lynn and Fireman. The winner, who is a five-year-old grey by Brent Locanda from Hedyio, has a great burst of speed, and looks a candidate for good mile saddle company. Talent ran his third good race at the meeting, and was very unlucky that he did not win a stake, especially as he had lo go very fast. M'Nab was never seen on the journey.
