CITY ROADS
tO THB EDITOR.
Sir,—A. large number of business firms, also business men, in this city make changes each year in their fleet of motor-cars. The usual practice is to trade the old car in to the agent for a new car and pay the difference over and above the price allowed on the old car and the price of the new model car I personally adopt this practice. Now sir, why should I have to pay the Hutt road tax, 30s, twice in one year if I happen to change my old car for a new one during the year for which I have already paid my 30s? That's the point which is exercising the minds of motor fl ei\ r consider the manner in which the Mayor has treated this matter, especially his demeanour towards the motor traders deputation, rather harsh. I presume the Press reports are accurate in respect to the deputation I refer to I consider the Hutt road tax of 30s money well spent by us motorists ; but leavs it at that.
Whilst on the subject I notice Oriental .Bay esplanade is going to ruin again and its only a few weeks since the road was top-dressed. The same thing applies to Constable street and Crawford roads. Only a few weeks ago the above roads were top-dressed, and a few days afterwards the roads commenced to go to ruin again. It is ridiculous trying^ to tinker with arterial roads in the manner adopted. The city councillors can pass as many resolutions as they hko; but resolutions and arguments at the council table wont make roads I leave it at that, and hope the next municipal election may briiig about an improvement soon .—I am, etc.,
DISAPPOINTED.
30th September.
