PUBLICITY WORK
ADVERTISING THE DOMINION. The Prime Minister stated, in the House of Representatives last night that he had communicated with the High Commissioner's Office to inquire what was being done in the way of publicity on behalf of the Dominion, and had received the following reply :— "With reference to your telegram of 22nd September, constant supply of articles and notes on Dominion and its trade, including Meat and Dairy Board, together with photographs to journals of all descriptions, result in very satisfactory publicity and frequent reproduction of photographs. Average daily press clippings 125. Criticism promptly replied to. Lectures given by myself and Drew, and lecturers encouraged with advice and excellent slides, of which 60 sets in constant use. Every opportunity, such as Exhibition, seized for special publicity. Films being exhibited wherever All Blacks play, and arrangements made wider distribution when more films available. Consequently, inquiries, especially from prospective immigrants, and from schools, for publicity material largely increased. Publicity staff fully employed, and result more than justifies expenditure." The Prime Minister remarked that he had never been impressed with the spot where the High Commissioner's office was located in the Strand. It was quite true that the thoroughfare was a busy one, but a corner section would have been much better. Some of the other Dominions had corner sections. Corner sections were more likely to attract people than frontages level with the rest ofaetreet. He thought, though, that the High Commissioner and his staff had looked after New Zealand's interests very well.
