ARBITRATION COURT
WATERSIDERS1 DEMANDS.

NAPIER, 25th September. A sitting of the Arbitration Court was held in Napier to-day to consider the claims of the Waterside Workers' Federation in respect to lightering- work at Napier, Wanganui, and Gisborne. The union demanded 2d per hour extra for-handling cargo on lighters'in roadsteads, 3d extra for handling frozen meat into or from barges, and Id extra for receiving coal from lighters. It was contended for the union that work on lighters was much harder than on overseas steamers. Mr. W. G. Smith, for the employers, complained that it had taken 35 to 40 years fur the claims to materialise, and he said that had there been any substance in the claims they would liave linen made loug b«o, Decisiou ws3
