SPORTS AT NEWTOWN PARK
Holiday-makers of all ages have again foregathered at Newtown Park to-day to celebrate Labour Day. As usual, great interest is being taken in the sports meeting, and a splendid programme.of events has been arranged by the hard-working committee. The morning was devoted for the most part to races for women and boys and girls, but this afternoon great interest is being taken in the N.Z.A.A.A. events for both track and field specialists. The pro-' gramme announces that all running events are handicaps, and in all events other than those under the direction of the N.Z.A.A.A. spiked shoes are barred. Again a generous response has been made to the appeal for contributions to the prize fund, and the programme contains the names of some .four hundred business men and other prominent citizens who have helped in this respect. Dancing, .skipping,' and "lucky baby" competitions also are being held, and additional amusement is to be found in the stalls and side-shows.
