A waitress, 18 years of age, Ena Latimer Gray, was ordered .to. be detained at Point Halswell reformatory institution for a period of 12 months, on a charge of being idle and disorderly. Mr. R. E. Scott appeared for accused. A' fine of 10s, in default 48 hours' imprisonment/, was imposed on Patrick O'Callaghan, who made his second appearance for drunkenness. Accused consented to a prohibition order being taken out against him. ' :. ■' ;
A steward, 31 years of age, HenFy Harris Baber TiinnicliSe, was remandei to 17th September on charges of the .theft of jewellery from Mary Catheline Littlewood to the value of £15;: ladies' clothing and- jewellery from Minnie Lee to the value of £15 15s';' field-glasses and leather case from Constance Eberlet; and a charge of omitting to acocunt for £4 10s 6d to the': Stewart Timber' Glass and Hardware Co. Accused, who was represented by Mr. A. B. Sievwright, was admitted to bail in one surety of £150, or two of £75. ■
An insurance agent, 50 years "of age, named Ernest Alfred Osmond, was admitted. to-probation for two years on four-charges of false pretences by issuing' valueless cheques, involving £13. Accused was ordered to make restitution within threes months, and is To abstain from, liquor entirely, and refrain from entering licensed premises for two years. * ■ ■ ;

'For failing to close his shop at the required time, A. Hunter was ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution, 7s. William John Burk was fined £2 for failing to slacken the speed of his motor when approaching a railway crossing.
A charge,of the theft of a- horse, valued at £5 ss, the property of William Sod, made against a bottlegatherer, 1-lirai. Vallabh, was dismissed yesterday in the Magistrate's Court.
