Isumerous petitions were presented in the House of; Representatives yesterday signed by fruitgrowers in Nelson and Otago protesting that the Fruit Control -LSUI is a direct attempt to create a monopoly, and as such is detrimental to the community as a whole and to the workers, who are the largest co'nwmera of fruit The petitioners ask that the Bill, if passed, be made nonoperative in Nelsou and Otago. .'.'Takimj into consideration the configuration arid geographical position of New Zealand " the.petition states, "a Dominion control is_ not possible with produce- which is_ perishable and liable to deterioration within a, very "short space of time. Local Or any other control of produce, including apples, does not tend to" efficiency but rather to a lessening of efficiency o! the industrial producer or the grower and tends to -affect the position of the mortgagee who looks to the grower for the efficient working of - his orchard. Pooling is not in the interests of the growers as a whole, whether for export or local markets." ■-:
