Proposals providing for a levy or excise duty of Id per lb on butter produced in AUstralm as a means of. assisting- the dairying industry are at present engaging the attention of the proprietary section of ihe industry in Victoria. The argument for the scheme is based on the fact thaiAustralia exports about one-third of the butter produced, and a levy of 111 per lb on the total output would mean a bounty oi 3d per lb on the tuiantity shipped oversea.
