PROVISION OF A' SCHOLARSHIP
GIFT TO VICTORIA COLLEGE.
For the purpose of assisting Victoria College to obtain students of agriculture, Sir James AVilson has forwarded the sum of £1056 15s, which is to be used for the establishment. of an annual - scholarship. In a letter to the College Council, re-! iceived at a meeting held last evening, >ir James Wilson explained that the amount was represented by a sum which .had been placed in his hands for the furtherance of education. It would not ■be proper to name the amount as beintr from himself. He suggested that thi scholarship- should be called the "Farmers Union Scholarship." He left the question of the administration in the iJ i^ H le members of the council. He added that he had received a letter from Mr. Massey, who stated that the Government wpuld supplement the amount by. £1000. It was decided to write; to Sir; James Wilson expressing thanks to him: and those associated with him. It was further decided to approach .the Government and ask for a subsidy, ihe money is to be invested immediately and the.Finance Committee is to make recommendations as to the scholarship conditions. .
