. More about morta-gages and: taxation was heard in the House of Representatives yesterday, and a good deal more is likely to be heard too. There was a discussion in the afternoon on the'Publie Accounts Committee's amendment to the Mortgages Final Extension Bill, extending tha moratorium until 31st July, 1925, a proceeding which the Prime Minister indicated did not commend itself to him, as he would have preferred to sea the expiry reached at the end of March next. The whole of the evening sitting was devoted to the second reading of the Land and Income Tax Amendment Bill, when there was a great deal of talk about the masses and the classes, • and the iniquity of high'taxation,' and taxation. which was not high enough, -the lrime Minister, when replying, remarked that ho was somewhat surprised to hear members complaining when the Government wanted to reduce taxation and he doubted whether such, a spectacle would be seen in any other ParlianieU? 1U T,the Wol>ld- Tke second leading' of the Bill was eventually agreed to and the measure was;referred-to---the' Public Accounts Committee.
