PEKIN, 9th September. The men landed from foreign warships comprised Brijsh 360, Japanese 400, American 250, Italian 100. ■ Martial, law has been proclaimed in Nanking, and throughout the provinces. Consuls are taking precautions to prevent looting by Chinese soldiers. Several hundred trained police have been drafted to Nanking from Tientsin. It is reported from Canton that Dr. Sun Vat Sen has been compelled to postpone his proposed military expedition owing to inability to raise the necessary funds to equip troops to support the Che-Kiang forces under General Lu.
