A VARIED PROGRAMME
MAOIU DANCING AGAIN A
FEATURE.
Another varied and interesting programme was submitted at the Town Hall last evening, and was greatly appreciated by a large.audience. Maori dancing was again a feature of the entertainment, parties of Natives from the Wairarapa taking part in a canoe dance competition. The work of the Maoris was of a very high standard, and eacli party was complimented by the judges, who remarked that the performances had been exceptionally good. They had a diflioult task in selecting the winners. Other items on the programme were also of, an interesting order. Results were as follow : —
Vocal Solo, New Zealand composer contralto).—Final :■ Miss Maud Elderton Otaki) 64 pomts, 1; Miss ■ Jeanette Bi'iggs (WeOingtoii), 83 points, 2; Mies lievan (Levin), 81 points, 3. Chief Piano Solo.—Becalls : Miss Reg Foster (Wellington), "Mr.-Raymond Sneddop (Hataitai), Miss Gwen Wing (Island Bay). Highly commended: Miss Vera -Boesley ■ (Berhampore), Miss .Preda Cameron (Turakina), Miss J. Millisan (West-port). I'ilial: Mias Wing, 180 points, 1-,-Mr. Sneddon, 176 points. 2; Miss Foster, 176 points, 3. The judge said that the section might be considered thebkie riband of the instrumental competitions. There were .two pieces to be played—the test and the own selection The_ test piece, %"Jeiwski's "Theme Vane" had been very difficult. The decision had been arrived .-at after much careful consideration. The class was so high and so uniform that the class had given him .a great deal of anxious thought. The winner had given an artistic performance in both pieces. Piano, Solo (open class).—Miss Vera Boesley . (Bwhampore), 88 points, 1; Miss Una Castle (Wellington), 86 points, 2; Miss Keg. Foster (Wellington), 85 points, 3.
Clog Dance (12 and under 16).—Recalls : Miss Evelyn Wright (Wellington). Miss Mabel Sinclair (Timaru), Master Bernie Lee (Masterton). Highly commended: Miss Joan Marshall (Thorndon), Miss Zelma Carroll (Eketehuna). Final: Master Lee, 94 points, 1 • Miss Sinclair, 87 points, 2; Miiss Wright, 86 points, 3. The judges did not 'express themselves as altogether pleased with the work in this section, although the vyinner had given a very neat performance.
Toe Dance (under 9).—Final: Miss Phyllis Ollivcr (Wellington), 80 points. ■I;. Miss Peggy Welch (Wellington), 79 points,. 2; Miss Billie Murphy (Wellington!, 78 points, 3. There, had been some charming work in; this section, said the judge, but there had also been evidence of insufficient preparation. She advised teachers not to give their pupils too much point work when they were very young. ' Canoe Dance (in costume). —Final: Wairarapa No. 1, 95 points, 1; Hamua Glee No. 1, and Hamua Glee No. 2, 94 points, 2 (equal). Highly commended : Hamua Glee No. 3. ; .

Highly commended: Miss Phyllis Adams (Wei lington), Miss Marjory Burnley (Lower HuttO, Miss S. Aitken (Invercargill), Miss M. Smith (Eastbourne). Story: Wjthput Words.—Mr. Lionel Inch (Wellington), 83 points, 1; Miss Delcia.Philpott and Mr. W. Stamlcr (Chnslchurch), 78 points, 2. In the Shakespearean recitation (reported in last night's "Post"), the name of Miss Anita Winkel (Dunedin) ,should have been included in the list of awards. She tied with Miss Halliday for second place.
