AMATEUR ATHLETICS

WELLINGTON CENTRE MEETING,

The Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Athletic Association met. last evening, Mr. A. C. Kitto being in the ci.au*. Others present were:—Messrs. A- W. 0. Travers, G. H. Hall, W.A. Melrose, L.'A. Tracy, E. A.'.Shaw, J. A. Peterson, J. W. Heenan, D.- Wilson, h M Kay, J. W. Scatchard, G. H. Lusk, J;. Sievers, A. T.Davies (president of the N.Z.A.A.A.), and J. O'Sullivan (non. secretary).; Advice .was received through the secretary of the Sports Protection League that steps were being taken to form 'a sports association in Otaki. It "was intended to cater for school children and other young people of the district in order to have the association well founded for the future. ■

. In a letter from the Wairarapa Subcentre s secretary, it was reportfd that the Albion Club had been wiped off the books. Other- matters relating to amateur athletics in the "Wairarapa were being dealt with at a meeting of the subcentre this week. -

_lhe Levin Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club notified that it was holding a sports meeting on Labour Day. The programme was approved. A letter of thanks ..was received, from Jhc Otago-Centre for. the hospitality shown to its team which competed in the Aew Zealand cross-country championship in Wellington. A motion was passed that the Otago Centre be congratulated' on winning the New Zealand cross-country championship. A report from the Paraparaumu A. Sports Club was to the effect that the club was in a sound position, the | bank balance being £23 3s Id, and there I w?-., a'"sum-- of £50 at fixeiJ deposit. _ wmi regard to an application for reinstatement which had not been approved by the New Zealand Council, it was decided to ask the council for its reason for refusing to reinstate the applicant. - .if

At the request of the Labour Day Celebration. Committee, the centre agreed to control the sports meeting to be held on the 27th October.
