EMPRESS THEATRE
-The stem rivalry that existed between Florence and Pisa in the days whan each city was, a Government in -itself oon-■.troUing-jts-.-owa army, form the basis of the story told in "Monna, Vanna," now showing at the ■Empress Theatre.- Guido Uurhno is the proud ruler of Pisa, and he has taken to wife the;beautiful Monna Vanna, a daughter of the people. Against the walls of Pisa comes a mighty host of Florence/under the command of Vitelh, "he of the .fortunate sword." Plea is unable to withstand the forces arrayed against her, but Vitelh'is satisfied - with a victory, and declines to sack the city. Miss Lee Parry appears in the leading role, and she has the support of a strong company. ',The supporting programme includes two comedies, "Aladdin" and "Neck and Neck," and' a Gazette. The Empress Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. M. Dixon, plays an acceptable programme of music.
