/ - '; MELBOURNE, This Day. '- _-Floods in th'S Yarra are causing anxiety. ■■- Low-lying areas, in-many places, are flooded, and the river is still rising at Seymour. Ruin continues falling, and a big flood is expected. One" man. was marooned "in a tree, for five hoursi before he was rescuedi.by apolice boat. Whitehead'B Creek inundated the lower portion of- three streets in places to a depth of( three fe.et.: Stock is' being, removed ,with difficulty, owing to the railway' line .being; under water. .-•■ Children from the State School at:' Jackson's- Creek' had to be ( carried through four feet of water.: Several bridges' are wrecked, ■ and roads are washed out. At the same-time -the rain will be worth millions to":. the farmers.
'SYDNEY, 26th August. Splendid rain has fallen over -the greater part of the State, accompanied by .warmer conditions. Crop- prospects are excellent,' and a good harvest 'is 'considered to be assured.
