N.S.W. MENACED BY STRIKE.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPTKIQHT.)
SYDNEY, 30th July. Leading branches of the Federated Enginedrivers and Firemen's Association reiterated their defiance of the Arbitration Court and decided to instruct the Federal president and secretary to refuse to accept the^ proposed new award, aud to form a council of action to discuss the future action to be taken. It was agreed that if the new claims are refused a strike will be called, and it was decided also to get in touch with the Labour Councils throughout Australia with a view to securing a united front by all organised Labour in pressing their "claims.
At a sitting of the Australian Arbitration Court, Mr. Justice Quick rebuked the Federated Engine-drivers and Firemen's Association for threatening to strike while its plaint was before the Court. ..His Honour said it would be inconsistent with the dignity and independence of the Court to proceed further, and refrained from making a filial award.
