LOCAL MANAGEMENT

The Wellington Rugby Union's Management Committee met last evening, Mr. J. Prendeville presiding: Others present were: Father Kane, Messrs. J. X Millard, E. Perry, E. H. Ward, W. Hardham, F. A. Laws, S. G. Hale, A. Jackson, G. F. W. Jackson, T. A. Fletcher (Wellington Rugby Referees' Association), and A. E. Neileon (secretary).

The application for a match between teams representing the State Advances and the Land and Income Tax Departments, to be played at Kelburn Park on the 6th August, was granted. The Health Department's Football Committee was granted permission for a match between its team and the Pensions Department's second team, to be played on Wednesday next, the ground to be arranged.

Messrs. S. G. Hale and A. Jackson were appointed to represent the committee at the Oriental Club's dinner' on Tuesday next.

Permission was granted the Victoria. College Club to play a match with Auckland 'Varsity at Auckland on Saturday week. The club will bo granted a bye ii> the local competitions on that. date.

A letter from the Bush Rugby Union: expressed appreciation of tho facilities given to its team when visiting Wellington, and also for the entertainment of-; toed. "We have further to.thank: you," the letter continued, "fdrso per cent, of the net gate, £12, and regret that the public take little interest in country football. With regard to the team that played against us, we think it rather unfair 'to include representative players in a colt's team, which ought to be a stepping stone for promising ycunger players. While acknowledging honourable defeat, we trust that your next colts' team visiting us will be a colts' team, and we feel sure we shall more than extend them with our best available side."

The New Zealand Rugby Union advised that the appeal of tho Poneke Club had been forwarded to the Appeal Committee.

With regard to the special meeting to. be held on Wednesday next to consider Ilia question of deleting : the motion on tho N.Z:R.TJ. books > prohibiting reinstated ' players from inclusion in the New" Zealand team, !the New Zealand Union advised that a ludicrous position would arise in the event of the motion being carried. It was suggested . that unions be represented by proxy to avoid expense.

, .A deputation from tho Selwyn Club waited upon the committee regarding a letter which had been received'from the union giving notice of an unfavourable report by a referee. The deputation was Heard in committee.

Mr. H. Murphy, who is travelling with the All Blacks, was granted leave of absence for the remainder of tho season. Mr. G. F. W. Jackson was appointed to act on the Junior Advisory Board in .place of Mr. Murphy. A report was made by Mr. Ward that the Primary Schools'"Union accepted tho 9th August as the date for staging two of its finals as curtain-raisers at Athletic Park.
