A wireless message has been received by the American Legation from Washington, confirming the death of Mr Hawley as the result of a dispute with junkmen. The message states that the commander of the British gunboat Cockchafer, acting with commendable vigour and promptitude, threatened to bombardment the city, and compelled the leading military officers to follow Mr. Hawley s body to the grave on foot and Skmen.^^ 6 °f the P^
