The Berlin correspondent of "The Times" says that Germany undoubtedly intends to pin M. Herriot to his promise that the military evacuation of the Ruhr will commence as soon as the experts' report is actually put into operation. Speaking at Dessau, Herr Stresemaim said he welcomed M. Herriot's declaration, which would mean the restoration of the status quo if at the same time the other areas which had been occupied in contravention of the Treaty of Versailles were also evacuated. If to .this were added the restoration of the economic and financial sovereignty of Germany the door between occupied and unoccupied Germany would have b<yn opened once more, and the unity of the Reich, for which Germany had been struggling ever since the conclusion of peace, would have been preserved. Germany in return would give fair performance of the conditions attached to the experts' report. If France was willing to live side by side with Germany as a peaceful neighbour, everybody in Germany would welcome this as the necessary preliminary to the peaceful development of Europe.
