WINTER SHOW

ENTRIES CLOSE NEXT WEEK.

Those who intend to enter for the competitive sections at tho forthcoming Wellington Winter Show and , Carnival, to be held during tho first week of next month, are reminded that entries close with the secretary, Mr. G. Mitchell, at 5 p.m. on Wednesday next, 25th June. The space for stands in the Winter Show building has . now nearly all been taken up, and the display of local industries promises to be a most comprehensive one. Live, stock entries are coming in freely, and include both fat and dairy stock from leading breeders. The fat stock will give, those interested in such matters an opportunity of seeing the developments which have ■ been. made in the direction of securing early maturity both in cattle and sheep in order to cope with the demand for "baby" beef and early lamps in the Home markets. In the- dairy cattlo section will be shown cows which havo wonderful butter-fat records, and these will be under test during the period of tho show, the checking being done by officers of the Dairy Division of the Department of Agriculture. An interesting exhibit will he several purebred Red Polled cattle from the Central Development Farm at Woraroa, some of the. animals being recent importations from England.

In the general Winter Show section the Department of Agriculture will have fin exhibit designed to illustrate the advances made in- agriculture during the past fewyears, and this will ho supplemented by a comprehensive collection of weeds (noxious and otherwise), which cause tho farmer so much expense and anxiety. The l'orestry Department will also have displays of various kinds of trees and timber in this section.

Other attractions will be the Olympia motor show, an industrial and art exhibition, and competitive sections for farm and garden produce, fruit and horticulture, home industries, cooking, etc., which should appeal to both town and country folk.
