WORLD'S LARGEST FLOATING DOCK.
The largest floating dock in the world -British ; built and British owned—is loored at Southampton. Constructed by •lessrs. Armstrong, Whitworth, and .;0., Ltd., Newcastle-on-Tyne, the dock ia-s towed to Southampton during April ■y seven powerful tugs, which took five -ays and a half to deliver their most .nwieldy charge. The huge structure, ■f seven sections, is 960 feet in overall ength, and 130 feet in width between enders, whilst its weight is 18,800 tons. The whole of the internal and external surfaces up to the level of the pontoon leek have been coated with bitumastio olution and enamel. Vessels of up to •0,000 tons can now be dry docked at •'outhanipton, so that in future there ull be" no need for the Majestic to go o Boston for repairs and overhauling.
