KELBURN CLUB

The fourteenth annual report of the Kelburn Bowling Club states that seventeen members were elected during the year, one was transferred from the list of players to that of honorary members, while the club suffered the loss of four by death, three by removal from Wellington, and twelve by retirement, leaving the membership roll at the close of the year 98 playing and nine honoi»ry members. Regret was expressed by the directors at the deaths of Messrs. E. Goodall. T. Sutcliffe, S. C. Hamerton, and C. E. Fordham.

Satisfactory progress has been made during the year, as the liability of £594 16s 2d on 31sl- May, 1923, has been reduced to £550 6s Id, enabling the directors to underwrite the assets by £44 10s Id. The decrease of £11 9s 4d in revenue received by way of subscriptions, entry fees, and donations as compared with last year is almost covered by locker rental, £10 12s 6d, while the ordinary expenditure during the year was £3051 15s as compared with £304 10s 5d in 1923.. Members are to be congratulated upon, the reduction, of the tank overdraft from £224 12s 4d to £177 2- 9d. Billiard .table.receipts show a decrease during the. year of £26 18s lOd, being only-£44 Is:lid, as. against £71 Os 9d in 1923. ;The expenditure being only £11: 11s 6d left a credit balance of £32 13s 3d, of which £13 8s 8d was transferred to' the Pavilion Extension Fund and £19 45.,7 dto the general account, in accordance .with the resolution passed at the ' special general meeting on 24tti. September, 1923.

In the champion of champion competitions, the club' was represented by the winners of its own champion contests, and greatly honoured in the success of Messrs. Williams and Gray in winnins the centre champion pairs competition. The directors congratulate Mr. Eoutley upon winning the champion singles competition of the cliib during his reign as president, and Mr. Compton upon his success as winning skip in the Wilson Cup competition for two years in succession.

The retirement from the directorate of Messrs. H. Ivory and F. T. R. Johnson was duly noted in the records of the club, and the directors' appreciation of their services conveyed to them by letter, but it is felt that special mention should be made in the report of the faithful and efficient service rendered to the club by Mr. Johnson during a period of nearly ten years in the capacity of secretary, vice-president, president, "and director.

By careful attention on the part of tho superintendent and caretaker, the main green presented throughout the long and favourable season probably the best playing surface it has yet attained, and there is every prospect that the even level of the green. will bo maintained, and that wjth the special attention that has been given tho small green the demands of members will be fully met in the coming season.
