RAILWAY ENTERS TOWN.

•', „ ' TAURANGA, 'This Day. . To-day t marked an ■ epoch jn the history of Tauranga, when the railway into the*' town was opened by Mr. C. KE. iMc-icMillan, M.P., who. read an apology from the Hon. j. !.G. : Coates (Minister of, -Railways) regretting, his inability' to be.present. 'The town is gaily-decorated-with flags and evergreens,., and there is a record crowd in the streets. The weather is , dull, ■ arid; rain commenced as the train, from the coastal districts conveying a,bout five hundred people "arrived, the engine of which .was gaily decorated. The train servicd has' 'been running for some, years' from Maungariui, on the other side of the harbour, to Matata,, but,the. entry of the, railway 'into Tauranga town has been long delayed owing to'the big bridge necessary to. span the harbour. . From to-day regular services will be run :from and to the town. The-only.other function is the official luncheon, at which the local bodies from.,.all; surrounding districts are to be represented.
