EMPRESS THEATRE.
"Queen of the Moulin Rouge," fea-. Turing Martha Mansfield, is the special attraction screening :at the Empress Theatre to-day. .As. a stage play it. thrilled Broadway^ and dramatic • critics, hailed it -; as 'one of the strongest stories ever ..produced. It is the love story of a youth in an Old World setting. An old music master, in ■■seeking to inject soul quality into the play-' ing of a pupil who lacks only this to have genius, seizes upon the love of a .pure young girl. to prevail upon her toi dance in the notorious Moulin Rouge (of Paris), ostensibly to, help pay for the youth's lessons. \His real purpose is to betray her, that the disillusionment of the youth', ■ who - believes. the girl good/ might bring rancour to his heart, and thus, by suffering/awaken his soul. And so he barters the good name of a young 'woman, _ makes, her a: victim of his.sel-. fish desire to' give the world a genius. That is, the motif. . The1 unfolding of the story is very cleverly done. There .will be an excellent supporting programme, including a Christie comedy, and the latest Gazette:,. A' special score of incidental music will be rendered by the Empress orchestra. The'box plan is'at The Bristol. ■ - • '.••-. '\• ■ t
