Dr. Earle Page, Federal Treasurer, has tabled a return showing that the total indebtedness of the Commonwealth at 31st March, 1924, amounted to £968,----484,740, of which the Commonwealth shave was 417,605,099, and the States' shares, including loans by the Commonwealth to the States of £56,390,011, amounted .to £550,878,641. The States' sinking funds totalled £16,053,539, and the Commonwealth's £2,190,040. Dr. Page states that a check is now imposed on loan raising by the Loan Council, which consists of the Treasurers of the States and the Commonwealth.
