1 FEDERAL AND STATE FIGURES TOTAL NEARLY 1000 MILLIONS CHECK ON RAISING OF LOANS. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.) (Received 10th June, 10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. Dr. Earle Page, Federal Treasurer, has tabled a return showing that the total indebtedness of the Commonwealth at 31st March, 1924, amounted to £968,----484,740, of which the Commonwealth shave was 417,605,099, and the States' shares, including loans by the Commonwealth to the States of £56,390,011, amounted .to £550,878,641. The States' sinking funds totalled £16,053,539, and the Commonwealth's £2,190,040. Dr. Page states that a check is now imposed on loan raising by the Loan Council, which consists of the Treasurers of the States and the Commonwealth.
