VISITORS DRAW WITH CANTERBURY MARISTS. .. (B-! TEI.EfIRAPH PUESS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH, 18th June. The visiting League footballers from the Australian Universities had no cause for complaint in regard to the weather conditions for their match against Marists, for the day was almost spring-like. A gusty north-west wind blew diagonally across the ground, and at times proved rather disconcerting to the backs of both sides when attempting to field the ball. The attendance was about 3500. Tho game was on the whole mediocre, and many removes from high grade. Marists had the advantage of weight and the visitors of experience. For all that, the Rugby Union experience of Marist's forwards stood them in good stead, and to them most credit must be given. On the other hand, tho 'Varsity players knew more of the finer points, and their backs were superior. They secured tho ball from the scrums, and it \vas in that department only that the Green forwards failed. There, wele large numbers of breaches and the goal-kicking was without luck, and certainly without judgment on both sides. A draw was the very fitting result to the game, as tho teams on the whole were well matched.. Marists were leading by 11 points to 2 at half-time, but in t\e second spell only, added two more points. 'Varsity were two behi^i with three minutes to go, but drew level as the result of a penalty goal.
