. IN EDUCATIONAL MATTERS v CONTROLLING, COUNCIL MEETS. Important points concerning the New Zealand system.of education were discussed to-day at a meeting of the Council of Education. The Director of Education '(Mr. J. CaugMey), presided, and there were present :^-Dr: G. Marsden (Assist-ant-Director of Education), Messrs. W. W. Bird (Senior Inspector of Schools), T. 'M. Banks (representing education boards of the South Island), H.iGi Cousins (certificated male^teachers of North Island), H. F.; Penlington (certificated male teachers of South'lsland public Schools), F. Milner (male, teachers in secondary and technical 'schools), Misses B. E. Carnachari (certificated female teachers tof North Island).-E. A. Chaplin (certificated female teachers of public schools), 'N. E. Coad (women teachers in secondary and technical schools), Messrs. F. H. Bakewell (appointed by the New Zealand University Senate), J. H. Howell (indus-. trial and technical interestsJ^E. C. Banks (agricultural interests), and ■ Dr..". HildaM.
