' ~ The United States is preparing to convert' hundreds of Government-owned trading vessels into motor ships, to increase the use of the nation's merchant marine. The: campaign to' rejuvenate the merchant service and make' it'a strong factor' in the -world's commerce will be accomplished in two ways—first-: ly, by the Government converting'itsown vessels; secondly, by lending money to private owners on a fifty-fifty basis for conversion purposes,! or, the purchase of converted vessels from the Government.
