RED CROSS WORK

WEIiINGTON' CENTRE MEETS. The monthly meeting of the Wellington Centre of the Red Cross Society was held yesterday afternoon, Mr. J. Burnett presiding over a good attendance of members. It was unanimously decided that Mr. Burnett should occupy the position of chairman for the ensuing term. Members spoke eulogistieally of-the work carried out in the past by Mr. Burnett, and it was thought he would be a fitting successor to the late Mr. T. A. Hunt. Mr. Burnett, in reply, said he would do his best to live up to the standard set by Mr'. Munt, and the society could be assured of his wholehearted support. It was reported that the council of the society at tho conference held recently in Auckland had decided that Sister Webster should remain in Taranaki for another year, until the completion of her term of service, and that Sister Clark, whoso work in Canterbury was just beginning, should continue on there for the full two years of her service. The council also resolved that only two more nurses should be sent Home to study the latest methods of nursing, and that these on return to New Zealand should serve three years instead of two years as at present. , The monthly report from the Red Cross representative at Pukeora stated that concert parties had visited the institution at various intervals and had considerably brightened the dreariness of the men's existence. Owing to the extreme cold, an increased number of patients was in bed,' but the health was generally as good as could be expected. A letteT was received from the honorary secretary of the St. Dunstau's New Zealand Association expressing the deep gratitude of the blinded soldiers for the kindness and sympathy shown by tho Red Cross Society to members of tho association. Both during and sinco the war the Rod Cross Society had been unremitting iv its efforts to alleviate suffering among blinded soldiers, and tho association was sinccrelv grateful.
