(Received 16th June, 9 a.m.) TOKIO, 14th June, j The American Embassy has formally { protested against the boycott of American films in. Japan, and ity informing the Japanese Government concerning other j discriminations. The Embassy's action j is the result of a complaint by representatives of American film companies at Kobe, who reported that the boycott movement is spreading in Western Japan, and asked for assistance in combating it. The boyoott in Kobe, however, appears to be Breaking down. The police have announced that full protection would be given to theaitres showing American films, arid hay« warned socalled patriotic boycottere not to use intimidation. The leading theatres in Tokio intend to continue to exhibit American films. Popular resentment against exclusion persists, and public meetings continue to adopt anti-exclu-sion resolutions. The student organisations continue to, be active, but dignity and restraint have supplanted the. earlier passion.
