SENSATION IN ROME
DEPUTY KIDNAPPED AND KILLED
SERIOUS POLITICAL POSITION.

(AUSTRALIAH-NEW ZEALAND CAULS ASSOCIATION.) ROME, 14th June. The body of a Socialist deputy, Signor Matteotti, who had been missing for several days and who was believed to have been kidnapped by the Fascisti, was found in a wood with the skull fractured.
(SYDNEY SUN CABLE.) (Received 16th June, 8 a.m.) ROME, loth June. It is believed that the kidnappers of Matteotti did not mean to murder him, but in tho struggle struck him a heavy blow, which fractured his skull. The kidnapping has caused tho most serious position in the Italian Chamber. All the members of the Opposition absented themselves as a protest. Signor Mussolini and other "Fascists expressed execration and horror against the murder and promised that if the perpetrators were caught they would be brought to speedy justice, but hoped the Opposition would not utilise the iricident for party purposes. In consequence of the absence of the_ Opposition, the Chamber voted the Estimates to the. end of the year, and adjourned sine die. Signor Mussolini stayed in his office all night and personally superintendent the police search. Three arrests have been made.
