BIG PRIZE BALL
"'Yes, We Hare No Bananas,' but wo have all the prizes for. distribution at tho big prize ball," declares the executive of the Citizen-Soldiers' Pageant. The ball will, be held in the Town Hall and Concert Chamber on Saturday next, and will be signalised by one of the biggest prize distributions yet held in Wellington. The prizes, numbering thirtyodd, will include no less than twentyoight offered in the big Pageant Art Union, which will be. drawn on the platform in the large hall, and it is announced that on the proclamation of the winning numbers the prizes will be handed over immediately to the holders of the lucky tickets, who will thus have the pleasure of being able to take them home that night. The first prize is for alluvial gold valued at £350, and second for alluvial gold worth £30, and the third prize also for alluvial gold valued at £20. Twenty-five- othev prizes of £1 each will also bo distributed. Dancers will appear in plain and fancy dress, and in order to ensure attractive dresses being worn, special prizes are being offered. These will include a gold wrirrlet watch for ■ the best original dross, and a special prize for the best lady's fancy hat. Two full orchestras have been engaged, and under the expert control of Mr. J. A. Smytho, dancers aro guaranteed that tho music will bo kept gointr. Tho ball, as previously announced, will be held in aid of Gunner James Patrick, a Territorial. 19 years of age, who lost his right hand as a result of the gunnery. accident at Newtown Park during the progress of the Pageant. It is hoped by moans, of the ball to raise a substantial amount, which will supplement whatever sum he receives in compensation from the Government.
