A TAXI AT MIDNIGHT
STOLEN EXPLOSIVES,
(II miGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, loth June. In the Police Court,' Patrick Cleary and Ernest Young we're charged with breaking, entering, and theft of explosives. The evidence showed that tho accused .hired a taxi at midnight, went to Kohimarama, broke into a shed, stole explosives, and then motored to Ellerslie, where they left the taxi. They endeavoured to enter a store, and entered the Road Board's office. In tho meantime, the taxi-driver became suspicious, informed the police, and the accused were arrested on returning -to board the car. Cleary pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to three months' imprisonment for being in possession of' explosives, was convicted and discharged for theft of the explosives, and committed for sentence for breaking and entering. Young, who pleaded not- guilty,, was convicted on tho two summary charges, and was committed for trial on the others.
