WELLINGTON WINTER SHOW

COMPREHENSIVE PLANS.

Comprehensive plans' are being prepared by the recently-formed Wellington Show Association for the holding of a representative winter sbow in the city .during the week from sth to 12th July. It is now. nearly thirty years since an oxhibltion of the kind took place. In the early 'nineties there vsed to be an annual agricultural show- on the old racecourse at Petone, but for some reason or other this fixture was discontinued, to the city's loss. The result has been that .Wellington citizens who wished to see the advances made in agriculture and in the other important rural industries .of the Dominion have had to travel far afield to flic Wairarapa and the Manawatu to the annual A. and P. fixtures held at places like Palmerston and Cavterton. Ifc is to remove this disability that the public-spirited citizens who form the Wellington Show Association have arranged for the holding of a show in the city with the hope of making it a success and an 'annual event. . i The committee has been fortunate in securing the use of four of the commodious sheds of the-Wellington Harbour Board, and in all there will be over 10,----000 square feet of floor space under cover available for the display of exhibits. . •

The central feature will be the general. Winter Show, which will be located in shod 29, near the King's "Wharf, which has a floor space of 240 feet by 90 feet, and in this will be located the bays of the Hutt and Nelson counties, the committees of both of which are now hard at work vying with each other in their efforts to show what these centres can produce. In thi-: section besides industrial displays of' various kinds there will be working exhibits of shearing machines, milking machines, and other devices of inteiest .to both primary producers and consumers.

In another largo shed will be accommodated the live stock exhibits, of which the fat stock will be quite a feature, as the exhibits will give an opportunity of seeing the progress made ;n both our beef and mutton. The exhibition of fat cattle should be of considerable interest, as a feature wjll bo the exhibition of stock in the class for early maturity, which is a. most important consideration in beef for export to the Home markets since the craze for "baby" beef set in there. There will also be opportunities for inspecting some of the best cows which have helped to raise the Dominion's dairy industry to the leading position 'in the world's markets. In this section prizes will be awarded for ths greatest milk production. .

In addition there will be a huge motor show on the lines of tho successful exhibition held here last year, while the Wellington Industrial Association will also make a big display. Those who require floor space in order to advertise their indus'.ri^s should at once make application to the secretary, Mr. G. Mitchell, as there is very iittle left. Exhibitors of stock, and those who wish to enter for other competitions, are reminded that entries close en 25th June, and it is satisfactory to know that entries in j.ll classes aro coming in freely.

The speaker, at the men's meeting at tho V.M.C.A. to-morrow afternoon will be Pastor A. C. Tuttleboe, late of England and .South Africa. All men are invited lo the meeting and the strangers' tea which follows.
