PBOGRESS L\ T THE BOROUGH.
A well-attended meeting or the executive of the Lower Hutf» Progress Xeacu* was held in the Town Hall, Lower Hutt on Ihursdav. '
A motion of sympathy was passed in regard to the death of the league's pre sident, Dr. J. M. Mason. Sincere - c . ferences were made by many friends "of the late doctor, who had played such a large part in laying the foundation of the success and prosperity of the valley. Ihe Hutt Technical School wrote thanking the league for having beautined the school grounds. A letter was received from the Bailway Department agreeing to certain time-table .alterations for the benefit of the district. ■
A hearty vote of thanks was passed' for the very interesting and instructive lecture recently given by Professor Wilson, of Victoria College, on the early history -of the Hutt Valley. Professor Wilson -was accompanied by Mr Edwards, of the Early Settlers' Association who exhibited many interesting records dealing.with the first few years of white settlement in Port Nicholson Arrangements are being made for further lectures on matters of general interest. A report received from the horticultural sub-committee was adopted regarding recommendations in respect to station garden plots and borough approaches. The secretary was.instructed to convey the appreciation of the league to the Hutt Road Board for the excellent and expeditious manner in which the new bitumen road had been laid. _ The sub-committee appointed* to assist with the work in connection with the Hutt Valley court at the Winter Show was, congratulated on the excellent, result of their endeavours. ■ • ■ A report Was received dealing with the highly satisfactory state- of building activities. The number of business and residential buildings at present being erected far exceed those of any other period in the history of the bor- ; CURn. ' , . ■
