PLASTERERS' WAGES
(Bt TELEQUAPB.—SPECIAI TO THE TOST.)
■DUNEDIN, This Day. A false impression lias apparently been created in some quarters by a paragraph published in- a Melbourne newspaper to the effect that plasterers were getting 3s 9d in towns and 4s 6d an hour in the country. A Bunediii plasterer who has had considerable experience in his trade, both locally and in other parts of the Dominion, informed a Dunedin repoiter that such a statement, whilst true as far as the North was concerned, conveyed a false idea of the position in Dunedin. Tho maximum rate paid locally was half-a-crown an hour, and few competent men received less than this amount, although the award provided for 2s 4^d. There were from twenty-five to thirty men fully employed here, whilst in Wellington there were 84, and in Auckland 132; the latter figure practically including every plasterer in the province. Owing to the keen demand in the North, competent tradesmen would command as much*as 3s 9d in the larger centres, and 4s 6d an hour in the country, with raiiwa.v fares Daid.
