WELUNGTON AND CANTERBURY
TOTFRNAMENT.

CHRISTCHTJRCH, Bth May. ■ The annual tournament. between the Wellington and Christchur,ch Training Colleges opened to-day. The Wellington students were given a reception by the Christchurch association, Mr. 3. E. Purchas (principal of the Canterbury Training College) being the chief speaker. In the tennis contest, Canterbury won 8 matches, 13 sets, 152 games; Wellington won 7 .matches, 12 sets, 145 games. With li sets to play -off, Canterbury have to win only four games to annex the championship. Wellington won the boxing championship easily. Contests .took- - place in light, middle, and heavy-weights , and all were won by .Wellington.- . The debate on the subject, "That the time is ripe for Dominion self-govern-ment for India," was won by Canterbury. Dart (Canterbury) was adjudged the best .'speaker, with A. M. Wilson (Wellington) second.
