PALMERSTON N., This Day. ' At the annual meeting of the Palmerston North Chess Club officers were elected at follow:—President, Mr. H. R. Thorburn; vice-presidents, Messrs. G. H. Morine and K. Thorburn; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr. G. H. Espener; committee, Messrs. A. Whitaker, A. H. M. Wright, and F. Gatley; delegate to New Zealand Chess Association, Mr. H.G..Lee (Wellington) ; honorary 'auditor, Mr. F. "W. Connell; custodian, Mr.. T. A.. Morine..
As aVivmans -of-raising funds for the maintenance of the Wellington free' kindergartens, the. association is organising a matinee entertainment, to.he held at His Majesty's Theatre on Wednesday afternoon.. 21st. May. Many guarantees of assistance have been received by the committee, and everything augurs well for a successful performance and a satisfactory result. Among the artists performing will li 3 Mr. "Lcn Carnes. Mr. Herbert V. Wood, and1 Miss Barry (contralto), and dancing and elocution items will be provided by pupils of Miss Euere, Miss Conk, Uka Gardiner, and Mr. Culford Bell.
